Come into the darkness
and sit quietly
with the dreams of this season.
Dreams of the Hebrew people ~
of lions and lambs lying together,
of justice rolling down like full streams of water,
of lands flowing with milk and honey,
of joy that comes in the morning.
Dreams of a carpenter ~
of being faithful to his betrothed in the midst of public scorn,
of taking the road less traveled
and journeying on the back roads.
Dreams of your own heart and mind ~ of the searching for and
claiming the masculine within and beside,
embracing the mystical and the logical,
the creative and the protective,
the carpenter and the birthmother.
Dreams of the dark ~ the dark night of your soul,
the dark recesses of your mind,
the darkness beyond the gate of the future,
the dark of waiting, and of not knowing, and of trusting,
and of letting go, and of letting go even more.
And in the dreams,
in the dark,
on this first Sunday of Advent,
sing from deep within,
O Come, O Come Emmanuel.
Advent Blessings from the Red Barn
A beautiful blessing, I am diving more deeply into my dreams for Advent so your prayer poem is most appropriate! And I love the new photo across the top.

I love your creative flame, atop a most beautifully written poem filled with many meditative thoughts of the season. My favorite line is, “the darkness beyond the gate of the future”……a wonderful gift from the depths of Red Barn.
Cathleen,
Just today meeting with my spiritual director, Mary, I spoke of sitting quietly with candlelight during this Advent season. Your poem makes me ponder the contrast of dark and light – or perhaps the presence of light in darkness. I know I need to spend time in silenece, in darkness, allowing Christ to “arrive” in my heart afresh this season of the year.
